First Look at the Royal Baby:

The World has been given the first glimpse of the royal baby. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been pictured with their new born son the Prince of Cambridge this evening outside Lindo Wing.

Crowds cheered as Catherine walked down the front steps of the hospital with her new born son, who is now third in line to the throne.

The couple's beaming smiles was a clear indication of their immense happiness throughout this special time.

The Duchess said that "It's been very emotional. It's such a special time. I think any parent will probably know what this feeling feels like". With William saying "well he's got a good pair of lungs on him...he's a big boy, he's quite heavy, but were still working on a name, so well have that as soon as we can. But its the first time we've seen him really, so we're having a proper chance to catch up just meeting him really".

Both William and Kate seemed to relish in their new role as parents

The couple stayed to answer questions from the waiting press, who had been camped out at Lindo Wing for the past week. William cheekily said "It was and I will remind him of his tardiness when he's a bit older because I know how long you have all been standing out here...so hopefully the hospital and you guys can all go back to normal now and we can look after him".

And with William already on nappy duty as Kate said "He's done the first nappy already, he's very good"; it looks like things are going off to a great start for the easy going couple, who looked very relaxed and at ease with their new roles as parents.

Kate looked as stylish as ever leaving the hospital, in a blue bespoke Jenny Packham dress and nude wedges. Kate's hair was styled in her trademark tousled curls, her dresser Amanda Cook Tucker was photographed arriving at the hospital hours earlier, ensuring Kate's hair was looking sleek and stylish.

The new family drive home to Kensington Palace

William buckled his  little Prince into his car seat, and the new family drove off to Kensington Palace, but it is believed that the couple will retreat to Kate's family home in Bucklebury within the next few days.

It's a Boy!

When Clarence House tweeted that the Duchess of Cambridge was in Labour and had been admitted to St Mary's Hospital in the early hours of this morning, the world waited in anticipation for the future heir of the throne to be born.

At 4:24pm the Duchess gave birth to a healthy baby boy, weighing 8lb 6oz. Prince William has released a statement saying "We could not be happier".

This evening Prince Charles told the press "Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild...It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy".

Thousands of well wishers have surrounded the gates of Buckingham Palace as the news of the baby's arrival was announced on an easel that now stands in the Forecourt of Buckingham Palace.

No doubt there will be plenty of celebrations in Britain and around the world to celebrate the arrival of the royal baby.
